MONROVIA — July 16, 2026: The Monrovia City Corporation, Payneville City Corporation, and Gardnerville Township have launched a joint cleanup exercise to clear clogged drainage systems and remove waste from the Stephen Tolbert dumpsite.
The campaign began along the Japanese Freeway, where teams are removing garbage and de-silting blocked waterways. Officials said the work is intended to improve drainage and reduce the risk of flooding as the rainy season continues.
During the exercise, Monrovia City Mayor John-Charuk Siafa and representatives from the Ministry of Public Works met with residents and property owners along the roadway. They reminded property owners to clear all structures within the 75-foot right-of-way of the Japanese Freeway.
Mayor Siafa said the enforcement of the right-of-way is necessary to ensure proper drainage, improve traffic flow, and maintain safety standards along the corridor.
Officials noted that blocked drainage and encroachment have contributed to flooding and waste accumulation in the area. The joint effort is focused on restoring drainage flow, clearing the Stephen Tolbert dumpsite, and enforcing right-of-way regulations.
