Monrovia, Liberia – November 29, 2021: President George Manneh Weah, has dedicated projects he funded at his former school, Well-Hairston High School, lightly interacting with students and faculty members.

The President attended the school in the late 1980s before going abroad for his professional football career.

Speaking Thursday, November 25, 2021 to a throng of students at the Well-Hairston High School on Mechlin Street, President Weah urged the students of the school and of Liberia at large to take cue from his own life story—a story of ‘from nowhere to somewhere’—in order for them to overcome the challenges of life.

He courted the students to take education seriously because, according to him, it is the surest path to a successful life.

President Weah reminds young people pursuing education at every level of studies to also cultivate the attitude of determination, discipline and resilience, adding that in the absence of these characteristics, the road to success might prove difficult for them.

“The reason I am here as President of Liberia, considering what I went through growing up without parental support, is due to my own commitment, resilience, and determination,” President Weah told the students of Well-Hairston.

The President, who went through the walls of Well-Hairston pursuing secondary education, said the ups and downs he endued while at Well-Hairston helped to motivate him to press forward and harder with every opportunity that came his way.

Telling the students about his own unpleasant early life story, President Weah said success largely lies in the ability of the students to create and tell their stories undistorted compared to others giving it on their behalf.

The President was on the campus to turn over the bathroom and other structures he had refurbished through the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE).

The Liberian Chief Executive called on the students who are direct beneficiaries of the projects to maintain it well, stressing “If you don’t take care of it now, it will go back to the same condition it was in.”

He also committed himself to refurbish the Basketball Court of the School which to date remains a career-building ground for upcoming basketball players.

The President promised to extend a similar gesture to the Muslim Congress High School, another Alma Mater of his.
