Government And Nat’l Health Workers Union Dialogue; Union Calls on All Its members to return to work

Monrovia-Following recent strike action by Health Workers across Liberia, the National Health Workers Union of Liberia (NAHWUL) and the Government of Liberia have finally settled down after both parties signed a memorandum of Understanding Thursday September 26, 2019.

Making the disclosure Friday at the Dr. Joseph N. Togba Ministry of Health in Oldest Congo Town, the National Health Workers Union Secretary General George Poe Williams says it was never the Union’s intention to go-slow in such a time when the nation is going through harsh economic situation, but however Health workers were constrain to do the otherwise due to the prolong period overlook of their concerns by past and current Administrations.

He said the National Health Workers Union regrets the ugly situation and promised not to reach to such point again.

“The National Executive Committee of the Health Workers Union (NAHWUL) wishes to recognize health workers who give their all for the passion in serving humanity, we are aware how some of you cross rivers to get to your various places of work which is highly risky especially during the rainy season”. Secretary Williams asserted.

He further mentioned that (NAHWUL) having concluded negotiations with the Liberian Government in good faith they are pleased to announce a call off to the go-slow action which started at 12:00 noon on September 23, 2019 and therefore called on Health workers to return to their various places of work to continue their duties as the National Executive Committee encourages them to remain ethical in the discharge of their duties.

For her part Health Minister Dr. Minister Wilhelmina Jallahwho cut short her trip from the United Nations 74th General Assembly in New York commended the Health Workers for the manner in which they communicated and negotiated with the Government of Liberia.

She said the issue of the health workers is very important to the growth of Liberia. She promised to work closely with the Union aimed at making sure that their plights are adequately addressed.

The Health Minister was also quick to apologize to those affected by the recent strike action by Health Workers across the Country.

Dr. Jallah says for the equipment for Health workers across the Country the Government of Liberia has already started and will continue as distribution will commence early October this year.

  1. It’s correct that government and health workers Union have signed the agreement but it was mention in a press release that health workers salary deducted will place back in their account?
