Former Security Advisor Seeks Separate Trial in Economic Sabotage Case

Monrovia- March 18, 2025: The defense lawyer for Jefferson Karmo, former Security Advisor to ex-President George Weah, has filed a motion before Criminal Court “C” in Monrovia seeking a separate trial for his client. Karmo is one of five defendants, including former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah, accused of economic sabotage, money laundering, and criminal conspiracy related to alleged misuse of public funds.

The motion argues that each defendant played a different role in the alleged offenses and should not be tried together, citing potential bias and compromised fairness in the proceedings. The defense cites legal provisions allowing the court to grant severance to avoid prejudice or improve convenience, emphasizing that separate trials would ensure impartial judgment for each accused. ¹

The court will now decide whether to proceed with a joint trial or grant separate hearings, with the case drawing significant public attention and scrutiny.
