Monrovia, January 28, 2026 – The Liberian government has corrected a mistake in President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s State of the Nation speech about road improvements. Officials say the wrong numbers were used when the President claimed paved roads had increased from under 12% to 20%, with 780 kilometers maintained.
Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah called it a “preparation error” and said those responsible have been held accountable. The government quickly released a corrected version of the speech to ensure accuracy.

The updated statement now says:
“My administration has cut Liberia’s paved road shortage from under 12% to at least 20% while fixing 783 kilometers of roads to keep vehicles moving year-round, as promised.”
Piah stressed the government’s commitment to transparency. The correction comes as Liberia works to upgrade its road network under Boakai’s leadership.
