MPC Political Leader Says Liberia Needs Stronger Passport for Global Opportunities

Monrovia, January 10, 2026 – Liberian Businessman and MPC political leader, Simeon Freeman is urging Liberia to strengthen its passport to help citizens travel more freely and boost the economy. He says a more powerful passport would open doors for business, tourism, and global connections.

Freeman pointed out that Liberians face many visa restrictions compared to citizens of Western and Caribbean nations, who can visit key regions like the EU, China, and Russia without visas. A stronger passport, he argues, would make travel easier, attract more visitors, and create business opportunities abroad.

To start, he suggests Liberia remove visa requirements for all travelers. This move, he says, would position the country as a welcoming destination, similar to Mauritius and Seychelles. He believes this would increase tourism and revenue while making it easier for Liberians to explore the world.

With fewer than 400,000 Liberians estimated to have travel-ready passports, supporters say improving passport strength could bring major benefits to the nation.
