Monrovia- October 7, 2025: The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco have opened a new chapter of cooperation aimed at strengthening journalism and media capacity in Liberia.
The two institutions held a high-level meeting on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Moroccan Embassy in Sinkor, Monrovia. The discussions focused on capacity building for Liberian journalists, media development, and strengthening institutional ties between the PUL and Morocco.

The meeting followed a series of engagements between PUL’s leadership and the Embassy, led by Mr. Lahoucine Rahmouni, Chargé d’Affaires of the Moroccan Embassy. Mr. Rahmouni briefed the PUL delegation on Morocco’s ongoing bilateral and investment initiatives in Liberia, spanning agriculture, energy, trade, education, training, and digital empowerment. These efforts align with Morocco’s vision of South–South cooperation and African solidarity.
PUL President Julius Kanubah expressed appreciation to Mr. Rahmouni for his continued engagement with Liberia’s media sector. He acknowledged Morocco’s participation in the PUL’s 61st anniversary celebrations and appealed for increased support in addressing the media’s technical, training, and institutional gaps — particularly in areas of digital innovation, professional development, and media resilience.
“Liberia’s media plays a critical role in promoting democracy and accountability but faces challenges keeping pace with global media transformation. Morocco’s experience in digital innovation presents a valuable opportunity for partnership and shared growth,” Mr. Kanubah noted.
Mr. Rahmouni reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s development priorities under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, including the promotion of media professionalism and freedom of expression.
The discussions marked a significant step toward forging a strategic partnership between the PUL and Morocco to advance professional journalism and sustainable media growth in Liberia.
Others attending the meeting included Mr. Hossain Asrouti, Counselor at the Moroccan Embassy; Ms. Estelle Liberty, Chairperson of the PUL Anniversary and Resource Mobilization Committee; and Mr. Edwin Clarke, Technical Advisor to the Committee.
