Liberia Expands Malaria Vaccine Rollout to Protect Thousands of Children

Monrovia- Oct. 4, 2025: In a significant step towards combating malaria, the Ministry of Health of Liberia has expanded its malaria vaccine rollout to nine additional counties, bringing the total number of counties covered to 15. The vaccine, RTS,S/A01, will protect 180,000 children in Montserrado, Grand Cape Mount, Bong, Lofa, Nimba, Bomi, Grand Bassa, Margibi, and Gbarpolu.

At the launch of the expanded rollout, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Catherine T. Cooper urged parents to ensure their children complete all four doses of the vaccine, which is administered between 5-15 months of age. Dr. Cooper emphasized that vaccination, combined with other preventive measures such as mosquito net distribution, case management, and preventive care, is critical to reducing the incidence of malaria in Liberia.

Malaria remains a widespread health issue in Liberia, and Dr. Cooper stressed that parental commitment is key to the program’s success. “We need parents to bring their children to health facilities to receive all four doses of the vaccine,” she said. “By doing so, we can build a healthier generation for Liberia.”

The malaria vaccine rollout is part of the Ministry of Health’s comprehensive approach to combating the disease. By expanding the vaccine rollout to more counties, the Ministry aims to reduce the number of malaria cases and deaths in Liberia.

Dr. Cooper’s call to action emphasizes the importance of parental involvement in ensuring the success of the vaccine rollout. With the rollout of the malaria vaccine, Liberia is taking a significant step towards reducing the burden of malaria and building a healthier future for its children.
