Liberia and European Union Strengthen Partnership on Peace and Security

Monrovia- September 10, 2025: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, met with European Union Special Representative for the Sahel, His Excellency João Cravinho, to discuss regional peace and security, multilateralism, and ways to deepen EU-Liberia cooperation.

Minister Nyanti thanked the European Union for its consistent partnership in promoting peace across West Africa, emphasizing the critical nexus between peace, security, and sustainable development. She reaffirmed President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s dedication to fostering peaceful engagement among sovereign nations and highlighted Liberia’s proactive outreach to member states of the Alliance of Sahelian States (AES) and ongoing ministerial-level engagements.

The two leaders acknowledged the evolving dynamics in the Sahel region, particularly in Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali, and agreed that Liberia’s leadership and diplomatic outreach will be instrumental in advancing peace and stability across the region. They also congratulated Liberia on its recent election to the United Nations Security Council and emphasized the importance of constructive engagement to reinforce multilateralism.

The meeting concluded with a joint affirmation of mutual respect, shared values, and a collective vision for a peaceful and prosperous West Africa, setting the stage for deeper collaboration in multilateral forums and regional peace initiatives.
