Monrovia – September 1, 2025: In an ongoing trial at the Temple of Justice, the defense team for former House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa and co-defendants has petitioned Criminal Court “A” to exclude several key pieces of evidence presented by the prosecution in the Capitol Building arson case. The defense argues that the prosecution’s evidence is inadmissible due to a lack of proper documentation and chain of custody.

According to the defense, the prosecution failed to provide adequate records of how crucial evidence was collected, stored, and transported, which raises concerns about the potential for tampering or contamination. The challenged evidence includes surveillance footage, seized mobile devices, and a gasoline container allegedly found near the scene of the incident.
Moreover, the defense team expressed concerns regarding the role of the National Security Agency (NSA) in the case, alleging that certain defendants were subjected to coercion in obtaining evidence. The defense characterizes this evidence as inadmissible, further questioning the integrity of the prosecution’s case.
The court will now consider the defense’s motion and determine the admissibility of the disputed evidence in the trial.
