Remarks at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the China-Aid Two Overpass Bridges Project on the Tubman Boulevard By Chinese Ambassador H.E. Yin Chengwu
(September 2, 2025)
Good morning!
It is my great pleasure to join you all in witnessing the historic groundbreaking ceremony of the China-Aid Two Overpass Bridges Project on the Tubman Boulevard. First, on behalf of the Chinese government, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations on the commencement of this project. I would also like to thank Minister Giddings and colleagues from the Ministry of Public Works and other Liberian Ministries, Agencies and Commissions for their support and assistance in launching this project.
China and Liberia are thousands of miles apart, but our hearts are closely linked. Over the years, the Chinese government, upholding the principles of sincerity, real result, affinity and good faith, has actively supported Liberia’s economic and social development. Especially during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation last year, President Xi Jinping and President Joseph Nyuma Boakai successfully met and elevated bilateral relations to a strategic partnership, marking the beginning of a new chapter in China-Liberia relations. This project represents a significant outcome of implementing the consensus reached by President Xi and President Boakai. The successful launch of it signifies the implementation of another key cooperation initiative of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Liberia. It reflects not only the traditional friendship between China and Liberia, but also serves as a vivid illustration of the continuously deepening strategic partnership between the two countries.
For a long time, Liberia’s road infrastructure has affected the daily commutes of its citizens and been a bottleneck for social and economic development. To address this challenge, President Boakai prioritized road construction in the ARREST agenda after taking office, demonstrating the foresight and commitment to serving the people. The two flyovers launched today are located on the busiest thoroughfares in Monrovia, serving as critical nodes in the city’s transportation network. Upon completion, the project will significantly improve urban road conditions, reduce travel time, enhance logistics efficiency, boost economic growth, and deliver tangible benefits to the public. It marks not only a milestone in the modernization of Liberia’s road infrastructure, but also a top priority in improving people’s livelihoods. Furthermore, it represents another important practical step in supporting Liberia’s ARREST development agenda by China.
It is particularly worth noting that the general contracting company for this project was decided through an open, transparent, rigorous and competitive bidding process in China. This not only reflects the Chinese government’s high emphasis on project quality but also demonstrates China’s sincerity in contributing its finest resources and expertise to Liberia. The construction company for this project, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), is a world-renowned international engineering contractor with extensive experience in roads, bridges, ports, railways, and other fields. Many of its projects represent not only the highest standard in China but also the highest standard globally.
Over the next 24 months, I hope that CRBC will strictly adhere to relevant regulations and standards, comply with contractual agreements, rigorously control project quality and progress, and prioritize safety production to ensure the successful completion of tasks. It is also hoped that the relevant Liberian government Ministries and other participating parties will provide necessary conveniences and safety assurances for the Chinese companies.
I firmly believe that, through our joint efforts, these two flyovers will be completed as scheduled and become yet another exemplary model of successful cooperation between our two nations.
I firmly believe that these two flyovers will not only serve as bridges for smooth transportation, but also serve as bridges of friendship and win-win cooperation between our two peoples.
I firmly believe that these two flyovers will inject new momentum into Liberia’s economic and social development.
Finally, I wish this project smooth progress and great success. May China-Liberia strategic partnership continue to achieve new advancements and bring greater benefits to the people of both countries.
Thank you.
