Monrovia-July 28, 2025: Finance Minister Augustine Ngaufuan has disclosed that Liberia is set to receive a significant boost as the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) reaffirms its potential US$500 million compact grant. .

Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan confirmed that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has signaled its intention to reaffirm Liberia’s eligibility for a potential US$500 million compact grant.

Speaking during a press conference in Monrovia, Minister Ngafuan revealed that the Government of Liberia received a formal letter on Friday from Ms. Alicia Robinson-Morgan, MCC’s Managing Director for Africa, indicating that the MCC Board has proposed Liberia for reaffirmation. The Board is expected to make a final decision sometime next week.

Ngafuan, holding up a copy of the official correspondence, emphasized that Liberia is now back on track in the compact process following a period of review and temporary pause.

“The President was not just speaking good English in Washington; he was making strategic moves on multiple fronts,” Ngafuan said. “This process has been under review. The good signal we now have is keeping us on track. The amount could be more than US$500 million or less—but all indicators are positive.”

He stressed that while the final decision is still pending, the current trajectory points to a favorable outcome.

“If the Board approves our eligibility next week, it will move us from pause to play,” he noted. “We are hopeful and prepared to brief the nation further once the MCC Board reaches its conclusion.”

The MCC compact, if approved, would represent one of the largest single grants in Liberia’s recent history, potentially funding critical infrastructure, energy, and governance reforms.
