Monrovia, Liberia -June 28,2025: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) led national efforts to commemorate the 2025 International Day Against Illicit Drugs, a UN-designated observance focused on combating drug trafficking and abuse.
The celebration began with a lively parade featuring LDEA Director General Hon. Anthony K. Souh, Deputy Director Gwee Porkpah, officers, students, and civil society groups. The procession ended at Paynesville Town Hall, where an indoor program followed.









Speakers included Justice Minister Cllr. N. Oswald and LBS’s Hon. Eugune Fahgoun, keynote speaker, Pastor Banny Cheady delivered the invocation, while Prevention Chief Grace Mulbah gave an overview of the agency’s work.
Deputy Director Porkpah highlighted the importance of training and professionalism and urged stronger judicial collaboration in prosecuting drug crimes.
Student speakers Dorcas Mulbah and Angel Jacobs delivered messages for President Joseph Boakai and the UN Secretary-General, emphasising collective responsibility in the drug fight.
Director General Souh called on communities to report drug activity and encouraged property owners to prevent their spaces from being used for illicit purposes.
Hon. Eugune Fahgoun applauded the LDEA’s efforts, noting over 30 convictions within the year. He advocated for better compensation for frontline officers and shared success stories, including efforts by a local chief in Bomi County. Armed Forces of Liberia alongside in hotel zones and at borders to show a more practical fight from the Government’s ankle
He called for logistical and budgetary increments to LDEA officers’ salaries if the fight against illicit drugs were to be relaxed
The LDEA also awarded six (6) Certificates and honoured three (3)Leeward Counties, Sinoe, Cape Mount and Lofa, respectively, for their role in arresting and seizures of the highest Substances within the one(1) year period. Their Certificates were presented to their Supervisor, the Acting Chief of Leeward Precious Rue, on their behalf.
Confiscated drugs were later incinerated at Disco Hill, with authorisation from the Liberia Medical Health Regulatory Authority (LMHRA)
Simultaneously, burning exercise
were done within thirteen (13)counties, except Grand Gedeh, where the funeral service of former president Doe and First Lady Nancy Doe was being held.
