LDEA Thwarts Major Tramadol Smuggling Attempt at Bo Waterside Port of Entry

Bo Waterside, Liberia – April 19, 2025:
At approximately 11:00 AM, on Friday, April 18, 2025, LDEA officers apprehended Mohammed Sangare, a 23-year-old Liberian resident of the Stephen Tolbert Estate in Monrovia, for his involvement in a significant smuggling operation.

Sangare, who was driving a white minibus with the license plate AM 6206, arrived from the Madina Market parking area in Conakry, Guinea. During a routine inspection as he was attempting to enter Liberia, LDEA agents thoroughly examined his cargo.

The agents discovered 583 packs of Tramadol, totaling 58,300 pills, with an estimated street value of LD$11,660,000, equivalent to around USD $61,368.

In accordance with standard protocols, the confiscated drugs have been turned over to the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA).

Given that this case involves international drug trafficking, Mohammed Sangare is currently in the custody of the LDEA, where further investigation will be conducted before he is charged and taken to court.
