Monrovia- April 17, 2025: The Environmental Agency (EPA) of Liberia, in collaboration with the Presidential Executive Order 143 Taskforce aimed at curbing encroachments on beaches, waterways, and wetlands, along with the Ministry of Public Works (MPW), Paynesville City Corporation (PCC), Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), Liberia Land Authority (LLA), General Services Agency (GSA), and support from the Liberia National Police (LNP), has launched a demolition initiative as of April 16, 2025.

This operation seeks to uphold the Environmental Protection and Management Law of Liberia (EPML) and the directives established in Executive Order 143. Demolitions are currently being conducted in areas such as SKD Boulevard, Police Academy, Tyler Island, and Jacob Town.
On April 8, 2025, the EPA held a press conference to update the public on the upcoming demolition plans. All individuals affected were notified in advance, and the EPA’s outreach team engaged with offenders to inform them about the situation.
The EPA is urging all individuals and businesses with constructions in wetlands, waterways, and beachfronts to voluntarily remove their structures immediately. Failure to comply may result in the government taking more aggressive demolition actions.
Furthermore, those currently constructing or dumping materials in these restricted zones are instructed to cease these activities without delay. The severe flooding and damage from last year’s rains—caused by obstructed drainage systems and illegal constructions—should serve as a significant warning to everyone.
This demolition effort will extend to additional locations nationwide.
The EPA expresses gratitude to all citizens who adhere to the law.
