“POLICE APOLOGY STATEMENT UNNECESSARY AND UNJUSTIFIED” Office of Ex-President Weah Declared

Monrovia- April 15, 2025 : The office of former President George M. Weah has responded to a press release from the Liberia National Police (LNP) dated April 14, in which the LNP apologizes for the “unprofessional conduct” of its officers at a recent Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) payment rally.

The former president’s office emphasized that there were no complaints filed with the LNP regarding the behavior of security personnel at the rally, nor any misconduct reported. As a result, the office considers the LNP’s unsolicited apology to be baseless and potentially driven by political motives.

Contrary to the LNP’s claims, the security personnel assigned to safeguard former President H.E. George Manneh Weah behaved professionally throughout the peaceful rally.

The office expressed confusion over the LNP’s decision to rely on social media and unofficial ‘reports’ rather than contacting the former President’s office directly to confirm any allegations of misconduct.

Additionally, the office reiterated its call for the Liberia National Police and other security institutions to adhere strictly to their professional responsibilities and avoid politicizing their roles.

Former President Weah remains dedicated to upholding the law and will not tolerate attempts by state agencies to employ deceptive or unprofessional tactics for intimidation.

All armed personnel within former President Weah’s security detail are officially assigned and deployed by the state.
