A Heartbreaking Appeal for Anlu’s Health

Last Friday in Gbarnga, 15-year-old Anluwhykor Phoenix Flomo sat alone on the steps of her home, waiting quietly for help. Her head was wrapped tightly with a piece of cloth, an attempt to ease the constant pain that has taken over her young life. Looking into one direction, her eyes are heavy with sorrow but still holding onto a waver of hope.

The cool evening air surrounded her, but the weight in her heart made it feel colder. She wore a red, white, and blue shirt, a simple outfit that appeared to whisper her quiet strength in the face of unbearable suffering.

Though her body is worn down by illness, it’s the emotional pain that speaks louder. Anlu should be enjoying her childhood, laughing with friends, and dreaming of her future. Instead, she is fighting a battle no child should face, enduring pain with a bravery far beyond her years.

It is a heartbreaking sight, a young girl, full of potential, held back by circumstances she cannot control. Anlu needs urgent help to take the final steps toward healing and reclaiming her life.

As a 15-year-old high school student from Gbarnga, she has endured ongoing health struggles for a long time. Persistent headaches and depression have taken a toll on her, with no clear improvement despite numerous medical efforts. In early March 2025, Anlu collapsed in Gbarnga and was urgently transferred to Monrovia for critical treatment. She has since been diagnosed with two diseases, but further tests are urgently needed to confirm the underlying condition and begin her prescribed treatment.

Specialists at the largest health center in Liberia, JFK in Monrovia, have recommended three vital tests to better understand the extent of damage to her health: • Anticentromere ($53) • ANA ($150) • Anti-Sch ($70)

The total cost for these tests is $273, and they can be done at Jahmale Medical Solutions in Monrovia. The results are crucial in determining the severity of the damage to Anlu’s head and back and will guide the next steps in her treatment.

Despite the many sacrifices of her family and the generosity of well-wishers, the costs of these tests remain out of reach. Anlu’s education has been paused due to her illness, but she dreams of returning to William V.S. Tubman Gray High School in Gbarnga. With your support, we can give her a fighting chance to heal and rebuild her future.
