Gbarnga, Bong County- March 4, 2025: In a significant move to enhance trade and promote economic growth in Electoral District #2, Bong County, the Commissioner of Electoral District #2 Bong County, Mr. David C. Karchue has unveiled plan to construct a US$ 50,000 market center in the District under his watch.
Commissioner Karchue made the disclosure at the district headquarter in Foloblai Electoral District #2.
The project when completed will serve as a commercial hub for vendors, and connect traders from the three clans Gbanshay, Morta, and Zeansue, hosting more than 1,000 sellers, he stated.
The market center is expected to drive economic growth and promote local economic activity in the region given its already dense population.
It seeks to further relieve vendors who sometimes transport their commodities or locally made produce over long distances particularly the city for selling purposes that sometimes reduce profit given by circumstances they encounter.
Commissioner Karchue disclosed that funding for the construction process has been secured through the Social Development Fund and the groundbreaking will commence early March of this year.
The district#2 commissioner noted that the market construction project worth a little over US$ 50,000.00 a significant milestone in the district development process.
It can be recalled, that a projection of 470,000 was made in the county Budget for FY 2024 by the county leadership for electoral districts project during the recent county council sitting.

According to insiders, the money has since been distributed among the seven electoral districts with each district social development fund accounting for US$50,000.
Given its strategic geographical location, the state-of-the-art market center will link petty traders from parts of Grand Bassa, Kokoyah Statutory District, and Electoral District# 3 and 5 respectively.
While emphasizing challenges, Commissioner Kaiju however expressed optimism for the successful completion of the project; rallying inhabitants of the district to embrace the initiative amid their political affiliation.
He called for a collaborative effort by local leaders of the district in the building process of District 2#.
The move comes following the launch of the County Development Agenda and the Development Planning Unit by the Ministry of Internal Affairs rooted in the Local Government Act of 2018 which seeks to decentralize decision-making and empower local administrators.
The decision is further aligning with President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development(AAID) framework that seeks to foster development in all parts of Liberia.
