In a Drug Possession and Trafficking Case, Court Sentences Abass Sanor to 40 Years Imprisonment

Grand Capemount- Feb. 20, 2025: The 5th Judicial Circuit Court in Grand Cape Mount County has sentenced Abass Sanor, a 42-year-old man, to 40 years imprisonment for unlicensed possession and trafficking of controlled drugs or substances.

On August 2, 2024, Sanor was apprehended by law enforcement authorities at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry in Grand Cape Mount County. He was traveling from Guinea through Sierra Leone to Liberia when he was caught with 31 kilograms of “Kush, a controlled substance valued at over L$100 million. The drugs were concealed at the back of his mini-bus.

Abass Sanor

Following his arrest, Sanor was charged under Section 14.89 of the 2023 Liberia Drug and Substances Act, as amended under Chapter 14 of the Penal Law, for unlicensed possession and trafficking of controlled substances and indicted by the County Attorney of Grand Cape Mount. His trial began during the November Term of Court, and he was found guilty on both counts Unlicensed Possession and Trafficking of Controlled Drugs or Substances. The court sentenced him to 40 years imprisonment (20 years on each count).

Additionally, the court has ordered that his mini-bus which was confiscated, be auctioned. The proceeds from the sale will be directed in accordance with the provisions of the 2023 Drugs and Substances Act.

This ruling reinforces the Liberian judiciary’s commitment to combating the illegal possession and trafficking of harmful substances and enforcing the drug laws.
