United Methodist church faces massive split over alleged LGBTQ inclusion on day marking its 192nd Annual Convention

Gbarnga, Bong County- February 13, 2025: The United Methodist church Liberia Annual Conference is said to be battling a deadly LGBTQ inclusion crisis as a group under the banner Liberia United Methodists for Biblical Christianity (LUMBIC) early Wednesday, officially announced its departure from the United Methodist Church in Liberia refusing to sit under the gavel of Bishop Samuel J. Quire, over power struggle and allegation of regionalization of same sex-marriage.

Currently, the group is hosting a consultative conference on the future of the church and crafting it’s own policy at the Gbarnga Administrative Building in Bong County, while the legitimate church has begun it’s 192nd Annual Convention at the St. John United Methodist Church compound in Gbarnga.

LUMBIC’s consultation is being held under the theme: “wake up to the dawning of a new day:Redeeming the church from scriptural compromise”

The departure of the Liberia United Methodists for Biblical Christianity (LUMBIC) marks the second withdrawal of Methodist branches in Liberia.

On Sunday of this week, the 72nd United Methodist Church officially announced its departure from the United Methodist Church in Liberia on the must talk about regionalization on Homosexuality in the church according to sources.

The consultative Conference of the breakaway Methodist church is currently witnessing prominent members of the church including Former Bishop. Arthur Kula, the Vice Principal for Administration at the Bong County Technical College Mr. James K. Saybay including the National Traditional Lesion Officer of Liberia Mr. William V. S Kollie.

However, the latest withdrawal has since signaled a growing conflict within the denomination sending a shockwave to christian principles and deepening the already existed turmoil among its members.
