President Boakai Initiates Student No-Collateral Loan Program in Collaboration with Nekotech

Executive Mansion, Monrovia – In a major step forward in enhancing educational access for students in Liberia, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. unveiled a pioneering no-collateral student loan initiative worth one billion dollars, in collaboration with Nekotech. The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Tea House at the Executive Mansion on Wednesday.

This initiative is set to empower over 250 promising Liberian students by offering them access to higher education in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Business and Artificial Intelligence (AI) fields at renowned institutions in the United States and Canada.

This program aligns with the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda, soon to be expanded into the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, which prioritizes human capacity building and aims to address the nation’s need for a skilled workforce.

The no-collateral loan scheme represents a transformative opportunity for young Liberians who previously faced financial barriers to pursuing advanced education abroad.

“Indeed today marks an extraordinary occasion for Liberia,” said President Boakai during the launch. He added :“Through this partnership, Nekotech is investing in Liberia’s future by enabling our young men and women to realize their dreams.”

“ This initiative will allow students to acquire the skills, knowledge, and leadership qualities that will be pivotal for our nation’s growth and prosperity.” He said.

President Boakai expressed gratitude to Nekotech and its partners for their commitment to Liberia’s development. By removing the financial obstacles often associated with collateral-based student loans, this initiative expands access to high-quality education for the nation’s youth, who will return equipped to contribute to Liberia’s economic and social development.

Addressing the student beneficiaries, President Boakai emphasized the importance of hard work and encouraged them to “seize this opportunity, study hard, put your all into it, engage deeply, and return with a commitment to give back to Liberia.” He reminded the students that their success represents the success of the entire nation.

The Nekotech no-collateral loan program highlights Liberia’s commitment to building a skilled and knowledgeable workforce ready to drive innovation and development across various sectors, with particular focus on STEM fields.

The President believes that the launch sets the stage for a brighter future for Liberia, as it strengthens the nation’s foundation for sustainable development.

The occasion was attended by officials of government, committee members, and youth and student leaders of varied organizations and universities.
