Senate Probes LDEA Saga

(Capitol Hill, Monrovia June 5, 2024);The Plenary of the Liberian Senate has instructed its Committee on Defence, Security, Intelligence and Veteran Affairs to launch an investigation in the recent scuffle amongst officials of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

Plenary’s decision was based on a concern raised by River Gee County Senator Jonathan BoyCharles Sogbie, informing Plenary that the LDEA Senior Officers have brought embarrassment to the Institution, wherein they physically attacked each other as well as the used of invectives in the midst of their subordinates.

The River Gee Senator further said, the issue has taken over the social media and the world over, which concerns the independence and focus of the LDEA in the fight against Drugs in the country.

Speaking to the issue, Senator Saah H. Joseph expressed that the actions of these senior LDEA Officers, showed that they have lost focus of the fight against drugs and must be made to appear before Plenary.

Following minutes of debate on the matter, Plenary mandated the Committee on Defence, Security, Intelligence and Veteran Affairs to look into the matter and report on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

It can be recalled that a fortnight ago, an embarrassing scuffle occurred amongst top officials of the LDEA, to include the Director of the institution, Col. Abraham Kromah, Deputy Director for Administration, Col. Gbawou Kowou and Col. Hassan Fadiga, Deputy Director for Operations.
