Following weeks of campaign activities across Liberia, Liberians will this Tuesday, November 14, go to the polls to democratically decide who the Country’s elected president becomes for the next six years.
The ensuring November 14 runoff election second time President Weah will battle Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai of the Unity Party (UP) for the Liberian presidency in a runoff.
It can be recalled, that in 2017, former soccer legend and now president, H. E. Dr, George Manneh Weah narrowly defeated his main rival, Ambassador Boakai by 61.5% to 38.5% of the total votes cast.
However, according to NEC October 10polls consolidated reports, the two contenders were neck-to-neck with President Weah obtaining 804,087 votes amounting to 43.83% while Amb. Boakai accumulated 796,961 votes which sum up to 43.44%.
The runoff was scheduled by NEC in confirmative with the 1986 Liberian constitution over the failure of 20 parties and independent Candidates who contested the elections to obtain 50 percent plus one vote.
Meanwhile, records from the first round of voting show that about 57% of Liberians voted against retaining President Weah as president.
But despite their rejection, the ruling CDC has been mounting efforts to convince Liberians that President Weah is the most qualified candidate to foster the country’s developmental agenda and as such should retain the Liberian presidency evidenced by his enormous tangible developments across the Country.
However, some Liberians believe that Amb. Boakai is in a pole position to restore the Country’s lost sanity under the Weah-Taylor administration while others believe that the Weah-Taylor administration has done so much to be reelected.
