Monrovia- October 4, 2023: One of Liberia’s Presidential Candidate, Simeon Freeman has strongly disagreed with those calling for the establishment of war and economic crimes court in Liberia.
Simeon Freeman, who is contesting on the Movement for Progressive Chance (MPC) ticket told a presidential debate that the campaign for war and economic crimes court is insignificant to the nation’s growth.
Mr. Freeman wants the citizens to direct their cries to the high rate of unemployment, and visible corruption that continues to stall development in the country.
The MPC Standard Bearer view comes in conflict with several campaigns initiated by CSOs and the media on the implementation of the TRC report aimed at delivering justice to war victims and survivors.

Political Leader of the MPC
The Liberian TRC in 2010 recommended the prosecution of groups that committed economic crimes and listed 57 people to have a formal trial and those individuals be barred from holding public offices or appointed positions for thirty (30) years.
However, Mr. Freeman told the gathering that the implementation of the TRC at this time is “of no need” to promote justice and the rule of law in Liberia, and called on CSOs and the media to focus on something else.
