“Water treatment and production are very costly for anyone to be stealing water, Take Ownership Of The Facility”, LWSC Boss Gaye

Paynesville – August 22, 2023:  Residents of the GSA Rock Hill community in Paynesville have been given what seems to be an authority to act in the interest of the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation, (LWSC) by its Managing Director Senator G. Alphonso Gaye.

Senator Gaye on Thursday, August 17, 2023 told residents of the Rock Hill community to take ownership of the newly constructed one million gallons (1m) water reservoir intended to provide safe drinking water to their community and other parts of Paynesville including Duport road and parts of the Robertsfeild highway.

“Take full ownership of the facility and protect its infrastructures including your individual pipes, fittings and meters from unscrupulous individuals”, Senator Gaye mentioned to the GSA Rock Hill community members.

According to the LWSC boss, the newly constructed water system is mainly beneficial to the Rock Hill community which makes it imperative for the community leadership to participate in providing security for the infrastructure.

“For sustainable service provision to your community, this infrastructure has to be well taken care of and protected from individuals with ulterior motives which could endanger the entire community”, MD Gaye rallied the community leadership.

The LWSC boss called on the community leadership to assist his institution in curbing water theft in their area as such has the potential to stall the supply of pipe borne water to their community.

“Water theft hinders the sustainable supply of pipe borne water as it is very costly to treat and distribute the water you see flowing through our networks; in this regard, we will leave our hotline numbers with your community to report incidences of this ugly act”, Senator Gaye told the GSA community leadership.

The former Grand Gedeh county Senator then admonished the community residents to request the work order of individuals who will go into their community in the name of the Corporation to execute various duties.

He disclosed to the GSA rock hill residents that the LWSC is aware of unauthorized individuals attempting daily, with some succeeding in carrying out duties of the Corporation for the sole purpose of pocketing monies that belong to the LWSC.

“Water treatment and production are very costly for anyone to be stealing water”, MD Gaye added.

The LWSC action man then assured the GSA rock hill community leadership of his Corporation’s commitment to supply safe drinking water to their community following the official turnover of the reservoir.

“You earnestly do not need to ask for the water as this reservoir was built primarily to service your community which continues to experience several water challenges”, MD Gaye added.

The Liberia water and sewer Corporation boss was speaking on Thursday, August 17, 2023 during the final technical inspection of works for the constructed Paynesville Service Reservoir, its associated feeder and main distribution pipelines as well as additional works on the GSA rock hill Inline booster pump station and eight –inch (8’’) distribution pipeline.

Speaking earlier was the GSA rock hill community chairman, Patrick Gbeyenoh, who made an official request on behalf of the community to the LWSC to reconstruct its distribution network in their community.

Mr. Gbeyenoh thanked the Corporation for the construction of the reservoir as well as community kiosks or stand pumps but disclosed that his community was in dire need of household connections as the community kiosk or stand pumps could not service the entire population.

“We appreciate the LWSC for the project in our community and the one or two kiosks but we decided to write as a community because the kiosks will not be sufficient to serve our population”, Chairman Gbeyenoh told the visiting LWSC management team.

According to the GSA rock hill community chairman, prior to the reservoir construction, there were household connections in their community but the construction led to the destruction of the existing network.

The World Bank provided funding for the construction of the Paynesville Service Reservoir, its associated feeder and main distribution pipelines as well as additional works on the GSA rock hill Inline booster pump station and eight –inch (8’’) distribution pipeline.
