Monrovia- July 27, 2023: The Liberia Football Association (LFA) today, unveiled former Ethiopian National team coach Selam Zeray Kebede as coach for Liberia’s Senior Women National Team on a two-year contract with an option to renew.

Kebede, an elite CAF coaching instructor with 12 years of coaching experience in her native land served as head coach for the Ethiopian Women’s Olympic National team between 2018-19 and also was in charge of the Ethiopian National team between 2017-18.

The former Ethiopian U-17 coach told journalists she’ll do her best to build a strong competitive and sustainable national team.

‘’According to our contract, I’m here to coach, train, manage, and also supervise women’s senior national team and also to assist the U-15, U-17, and U-20. I’ll do my best to build a strong competitive and sustainable national team.

In a brief unveiling ceremony attended by Executive Committee members, LFA president Mustapha Raji said Kebede’s appointment was geared towards strengthening the senior national team and the LFA youth programs.

LFA President said the appointment was also geared towards ‘’enhancing’’ the youth national teams to make it ‘’far better’’.

‘’The coach appointment is geared toward strengthening our senior national team, our youth programs. With no disrespect to the other coaches who contributed to the success of women football, but it’s geared toward enhancing and making it far better,’’ Raji said.

Representing the Ministry of Sports at the brief signing ceremony, Deputy Minister Andy Quamie expressed his gratitude to the LFA for the step taken to appoint a foreign coach in the midst of testing challenges.

‘’I want to express my gratitude to the LFA. I know there will be challenges but appointing a foreign coach is a good thing to do.

‘’We hope you succeed to take our national team to where it has not been before especially after leaving your family in Ethiopia and agreeing to work with our football programs,’’ Quamie concluded.

Selam Zeray said she would lay out plans in the coming days and then the media and the whole country will know what she intends to do.
