Monrovia- July 25, 2023: The government of Liberia through the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has electrified three (3) communities under the LEC Gap Communities Electrification Project (G-CEP).

The project is aimed at connecting communities that were not captured by various donor funded projects.
As part of the recent exercise by the LEC management under the astute leadership of CEO Monie Captan, the lights were officially switched on in Iron Factory, Lonestar #1, Jacob Town and 77nd Army Camp Communities respectively.
With this recent development, over four thousands residents in the project affected communities, are now legally connected to stable and affordable electricity supply for the first time in a long time.
Remarking at the occasion, LECโ€™s Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Monie Captan described the initiative as a clear demonstration of President George Weahโ€™s commitment to advancing the energy sector in Liberia by connecting all residents irrespective of status.

According to Mr. Captan, access to stable electricity is a vital component of normal life in the 21st century; and as such, Liberians cannot be excluded especially under Pro-Poor Government.
Mr. Captan, at the same time, warned those legally connected to the national electricity grid to desist from any forms of illegal connections and transactions noting that it undermines LECโ€™s quest to get more people connected to the national electricity grid.
The LEC Acting CEO, however, used the occasion to hail employees of the corporation for their unflinching support towards the success of the project and many other initiatives that the entity is currently undertaking as part of it infrastructural development plan.
At the same time, Mr. Captan commended the various contractors for their sincere commitment though-out the different phases of the project something he termed as a remarkable achievement.

Shobayo, said the LEC Gap Communities Electrification Project (G-CEP) will bring relief to residents of the three benefiting communities who have struggled over the years to get legally connected to the LEC grid.
Mr. Shobayo added that the project is a self-funded LEC initiative targeting communities in Monrovia and its environs that were not captured by donor-sponsored projects something that prompted LEC management to design a program that will capture everyone.
Mr. Shobayo said as part of the project, the LEC management under the visionary leadership of CEO Hon. Monie Captan, the LEC management was able to procure basic electricity materials such as; transformers, wires, light poles, and meters amongst others.
The LEC Executive Director for Planning Engineering & Major Connections, Dele Shobayo praised residents of the project-affected communities for their support given to the contractors during the project which contributed to the smooth implementation of the project.
Meanwhile, residents and beneficiaries of the three (3) communities including Iron Factory, Lonestar #1, Jacob town, and 77nd Army Camp communities extended heartfelt appreciation to the Liberian government through the LEC management headed by CEO Monie Captan for the electrification of their respective communities.
