President Weah Dedicates Clara Town Survivors Sports Park, Describes It ‘A Promise Kept’

Monrovia, Liberia -July 24,2023: The President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah has said the construction and subsequent dedication of the Clara Town Survivors Sports Park is a ‘promise kept’ to the people of the slum community.

He told thousands of jubilant residents of Clara Town and Doe Community Friday, July 21, 2023 at the dedication of the Sports Park that he was under obligation, as President of the Republic, to give back to his people and the community in which he lived as a youth and plied his footballing talents.

He disclosed that he named the refurbished field “Clara Town Survivors Sports Park” as honor and memorial for all residents of the community who survived the struggle for a better life over the years.

It can be recalled that President Weah lived in Gilbrata, Clara Town, and played football on the field, which was then unkempt and muddy, for Young Survivors.

He reflected: “I came to you, and you told me that your road was bad, and I told you to give me three weeks. Today, your road is paved . I passed by, and the kids came to me and said their field was not good. I told them to give me some time. Today, your field is here.”

He continued: “I came back, and you said you needed water; now you have water. I came back, and a few women came to me and said to me,’You are building this facility, but we don’t have toilet.’ Today, you have modern toilet facilities.”

The Liberian Leader also told residents of the community that though his opponents disparaged him during the 2017 elections that he knew nothing to be President, but contrary to their claims, he has done and is doing many things for Liberians.”

President Weah urged the people of the community to use the facility wisely and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to access and enjoy it.

He also appealed to them to ensure good and proper maintenance of the facility for their own benefit.

The newly refurbished facility, which sits on 1.6 acres of land, has a basketball court, playing pitch, volleyball, track, and a children playground.
