Monrovia- May 26, 2023; A group of Nimbaians organized to promote the presidential bid of Counselor Tiawan Saye Gongloe has sharply condemned the May 21, 2023 attack on the Christ Chapel of Faith church of  Nimba County  Senator Prince Y. Johnson, and has categorically detested the act of using the church’s pulpit for political responses.
NIFOGO in a press statement issued on May 24, 2023, in Monrovia, said the unprovoked and barbaric acts meted against their Senator and by extension his congregation are unacceptable.

The group emphasized that the attack reminds them of the post-election violence  they endured after the 1985 elections
They accused the National Patriotic Party (NPP) of Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor of masterminding the attack against Senator Johnson and called for a speedy investigation that will bring the perpetrators to justice.

NIFOGO warns that they will not sit down to allow any attack against Nimbains, something they have endured.
“Nimbains will no longer allow the dark days of the 1990 14th Street Lutheran Church massacre to be repeated,” the group emphasized. “This time we will not stand by to see such barbarity again,” they added.
At the same time, NIFOGO said it condemns Senator Johnson for using the altar of God as a medium to settle political scores.

“That was extremely wrong, by doing that the Senator himself desecrated the altar of God,” NIFOGO said. 

The group of Nimbains called on politicians in the country who defile the church of God by using the pulpit to desist from such immature politics.
NIFOGO urged Senator Johnson to use press conferences and his party Headquarters or the Capitol Building in responding to political matters.

Meanwhile, NIFIGO wants President Weah to institute a transparent investigation into the matter inclusive of the media.
The group also called on the International Community particularly the United States government, United Nations, European Union, and Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) to immediately intervene in the matter as it has the propensity to undermine the fragile peace and stability in Liberia.
