Monrovia- May 8, 2023: The National Elections Commission (NEC) has issued warning to all potential aspirants to desist from pre-campaign activities or risk facing consequences during the nominations process. The NEC Head, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, delivered this message during a regular stakeholder briefing held at the Commission’s headquarters.

“Effective midnight on May 15th, 2023, all aspirants are mandated to take down all promotional materials such as billboards, banners, posters, jingles, dramas, or any other paraphernalia from their current locations. Failure to comply with this directive will result in violators facing consequences during the nomination process”. Lansanah added
Lansanah confirmed that the government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, has provided the NEC with $45.5 million out of the $53 million required for the successful organization of the general elections. She also noted that the minister had promised to provide the balance in due time.
In addition, the NEC Head announced that the ongoing Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) process in Bong, Grand Gedeh, Nimba, Grand Kru, Sinoe, Maryland, Rivercess, River Gee, and Lofa counties will not be extended beyond the scheduled dates. She urged all eligible voters to take advantage of the last two days of the BVR process, May 10th and 11th, which will close at 7 pm instead of the usual 5 pm.
Although the NEC’s mandate has not caused a stir among the candidates, the warning has emphasized the commission’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election process in Liberia. Aspirants are urged to adhere to the directive and await the official start of the campaign period.
