The Criminal Justice Association of Liberia (CJAL) and a local Non Governmental Organization in Liberia, the Global Action for Sustainable Development (GSAD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at providing access to human rights indicative of the rule of law.
GASD Executive Director, James Koryor at the signing of the communiqué on Monday, April 24, 2023 on Carey Street in Monrovia said the program seeks to work jointly with the CSAL in monitoring courts and the holistic application of the rule of law in Liberia.
Executive Director Koryor said the program will focus on young people’s access to justice and the monitoring of police stations across Liberia in a bid to render justice to all.
“ This program is centered on human rights, access to justice and rule of law in Liberia,” Mr. Koryor said. “It is intended to ensure women and children and young people access justice through the legal system,” he added.

He asserted that the program supports a clear framework for the rule of law adding, it is a significant milestone for the two organizations wanting to see the rule of law in Liberia elevated to a higher pedestal.
However, Mr. Koryor emphasized that the memorandum serves as a framework in guiding the two organizations in implementing the project.
At the same time, Mr. Jarbo G. Wreh, ll, president of the CJAL promised to work along with GSAD to ensure that the rule of law is properly applied using the criminal justice approach.
Mr. Jarbo intoned that many people do not understand the criminal justice process in Liberia, but promised that his organization will provide civic education on the criminal justice system so as to abreast the public in how to engage the criminal justice process.
He assured his partner that CJAL will go to schools, ghettos and market places in order to provide education on the criminal justice procedures in Liberia.
“We will go to schools, ghettos and everywhere that we think justice must be served,” he promised. “We will monitor the various zones and depots taking into account inputs,” he asserted.
The CJAL prexy indicated that the three components of the criminal justice – police, court and correction levels will be monitored on a daily basis and data obtained will be published on the organization’s website to expose happenings in the criminal justice system.
