Internal Affairs Minister and LIS Boss in Ivory Coast for Enhancement in Border Management

Abidjan, March 22,2023: The Minister of Internal Affairs, Honorable Varney Sirleaf is currently in the Ivorian port city of Abidjan as guest of the Government of the neighboring country.

Minister Sirleaf is accompanied by Col. Robert W. Budy, Commissioner-General of Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) and the Deputy National Security Advisor to the President Attorney Samuel Dakana.

The delegation was invited by the government of Cote d’lvoire for a review and possible reinforcement of a joint cooperation on cross border management subsisting between the two Countries.

It can be recalled in 2018, while visiting Abidjan, Liberian leader His Excellency Dr. George Weah appointed Minister to lead all issues on cross border involving Cote d’lvoire.

Since then, Minister Sirleaf continues to coordinate with the relevant Liberian institutions in charge of border, particularly the LIS for proper management of the borders.

These engagements have increased information sharing and confidence.

While in Abidjan, Minister Sirleaf are meeting with Commission on Border Management, the head of the Gendarmerie, the Ivorian Army Chief of Staff and the Ministers of Interior and Minister of State and Defense.

The Minister is soliciting support for empowerment of Liberia’s border infrastructure especially at the time Liberia is preparing for its presidential and Legislative elections.
