A high-power Government of Liberia delegation is poised to participate in this year’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 expected to be held in Bucharest, Romania led by Liberia Telecommunications Sector head, Minister Cooper W. Kruah.
The Liberian delegation includes the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA) boss, Madam Edwina Zackpah, Hon. Israel Akinsanya and Hon. Zotawon Titus, all of LTA while the Chairman of Liberia Telecommunication Corporation (LIBTELCO) Hon. Richmond Toby and two others from the corporation will be in attendance.
The Liberian delegation to this year’s ITU Conference 2022 is expected to detail the role of Liberia in the telecommunications sector highlighting the critical role Information Communication Technology (ICT) is playing in accelerating the transformation of the country’s economic stature from one of poverty into middle – income nation.

According to reports, the delegation is also expected to trumpet to a higher pedestal at that world gathering of telecommunications practitioners how Liberia’s ICT sector has become an enabler of social and economic development thereby promoting the need to update the 2010 policy to make it relevant to the current exigencies of the State, and in support of the government ICT objectives in line with the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD).
The Liberian delegation to this year’s ITU conference will also have the right to participate in this year’s voting process in which the posts of Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General, and the Director of Radio Bureau.
According to an unimpeachable report emanating from the delegation, Liberia is expected to vote for its traditional allies in the ITU industry.
The ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 aims to advance gender equality by upholding actions on agenda setting, participation, governance, working environment, and decision-making.
ITU was founded in Paris in 1865 as the International Telegraph Union. It became ITU in 1932, and in 1947 became a specialized agency of the United Nations.
The Plenipotentiary Conference of ITU is the highest policy-making body and meets once every four years to set the Union’s general policies.
