Monrovia- August 14, 2022: The Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR) of Liberia says, the Commission will begin a Two-day Public Inquiry to ascertain the cause, scale and magnitude of the violence that erupted during the Student Unification Party’s (SUP) “Fix The Country” protest on Friday, 26 July 2022 in front of the United States Embassy on Benson Street.
The Student Unification Party is one of many political groups at the University of Liberia (UL).
According to the Commission’s recent press release, the public inquiry will start at 11:00A.M at the Commission’s headquarter on 20th Street and Russell Avenue in Sinkor.
It added, the inquiry aims to advert a re-occurrence of July 26 demonstration and establish a civic space for popular participation.
The release further said, the National Human Rights Institution public inquiry is consistent with the INCHR’s statutory mandate to ensure the protection and promotion of human rights throughout the Republic of Liberia.

Article 3 (1) provides that the Commission shall have the general competence to protect and promote human rights in the Republic of Liberia, according to the provision of the Act, the Constitution and other relevant laws of Liberia.
The release said , in fulfillment of the INCHR’s mandate to promote and protect human rights in Liberia, the Commission has invited to its Public Inquiry institutions and individuals from the Student Unification Party(SUP), CDC-CoP, Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s) and the Ministry of Justice(MOJ). Other are Liberia National Police (LNP), Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA).
According to the release , facts gathered from the inquiry will inform the Commission’s recommendations and advise to the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary branches of Government on way forward towards 2023 Presidential and General Elections.
