(Monrovia, Liberia- April, 16,2022): The City Government of Monrovia has strongly dismissed the recent mudslinging tirades of Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson T. Koijee being linked to brutality meted out against a Liberian citizen.
A social media post containing the allegation made rounds on the morning of April 16, 2022 on Facebook to create hype in the public space out of naysayers’ quest to gain political capital at the detriment of Mayor Koijee’s reputation. The City Government of Monrovia says it would like to emphatically state these allegations are workings of desperate political maneuvering that bears no iota of truth. We are encouraging those involved in spewing this parody of an allegation to cease because Mayor Koijee carries scars of his advocacy for social justice and respect for the rule of law for years. We would be glad if the poster had shown the identity of this alleged victim to help state security actors to intervene or at least make the public to know the purported victim in order to seek justice.
“To set the record straight, as Mayor of Monrovia, Jefferson T. Koijee has distinguished himself as a respecter of the law and would never indulge himself into any act of brutality against any Liberian citizen. Since his inception in 2018, as Chief Administrator of Monrovia, Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee has been squarely focused on his duties and engaging in education and youth empowerment work as well as ensuring the nation’s capital is clean, green, and safe. As head of the City Government of Monrovia, he has never supported nor sponsored any wanton act inconsistent with the Rule of Law, demonstrated by any employee or volunteer,” the press statement stressed.

The MCC says any insinuation or assertion to the contrary is categorically false. To be clear, this is an orchestrated campaign by those destructive crusaders and is a direct attack on the City Government of Monrovia. They feel threatened by Mayor Koijee’s work to upgrade Monrovia through waste collection, reduce unemployment, abolish crimes and violence, improve sanitation and fight corruption, and will do anything to create division and undermine the City Government of Monrovia headed by Mayor Koijee.
“Fellow residents of Monrovia, we want to make sure you all are aware of this and correct any lies or misconceptions you may have heard or read,” the release concluded.
