LONG-AWAITED BARLEY ISLAND TO RESUME CONSTRUCTION

Monrovia- March 11, 2022: Public Work Boss Hon. Ruth Cokers Collins has disclosed that public work has issued an award letter and signed a contract with a Chinese Firm called Q-Joe for the construction of the Barley island.

The Ministry along with their contractor moved in March 10, 2022, to hand over and introduce the community through the alignment of the project to their contractor.

In a statement released at MICAT regular briefing held Thursday, March 10, 2022, the Acting Minister of public work Hon. Ruth Cokers Collins disclose that The Barley Island is about 3.6 Km and costs approximately four million United States dollars. “The project is founded 100% by the government of Liberia.”

According to her, the Ministry of Finance has signed the project documents, therefore all contractors are in full gear and readiness to kick off the project during this week.

Also, She stressed that upon her visit to Nimba county, the county legislative Caucus along with people from the nearby Counties took them on a tour to see the progress been made by their contractor on the Nimba project.

She told reporters that members of the caucus inform her that the contractor assigned to the project in the area was poorly performing.

predicated on this she warns that as a government they do not sheath their contractors, especially for the one that are poorly performing.

“if these contractors don’t perform satisfactorily And for some reason if they can not go accordingly, the company in question ( featured builder) contract will be terminated.”

Following the incident, the public work boss clam the ministry has tried her best to terminate three of their contractors. Adding that ” we want to terminate but if we terminate how are we going to get back the government money ?” She asks

Madame Collins who was recently lauded by President Weah for her astonishing efforts toward the rapid development of the country’s infrastructure, says the ministry is going to have another meeting this week To discuss the way forward for the poorly performing contractors.

Additionally, for the Monrovia Integrated Development Project (MIDP) she says the ministry of public work has engaged their French partner and the world bank For 40 million United States Dollars.

The project will impact the likelihood of city dwellers and address the flooding situation in Liberia.

Her statement further detail that the project implementation preparatory process kick-off is ongoing and it is expected to kick off hopefully in May of this year.
