After Series Of Complaints From Students, House Summons Lofa County Community College President & Education Minister

Monrovia- February 10, 2022: The Plenary of the Honorable House of Representatives has summoned the President of the Lofa County Community College (LCCC), Dr. Samuel K. Ngaima, Sr. and the Minister of Education Professor, Ansu Sonii to appear before the full Plenary on next week Thursday to address series of complaints from the Community College faculty and the Students.

The decision to have the above mentioned individuals cited was reached on Thursday, February 10, 2022 during the 10th Day Sitting of the 5th Session of the 54th Legislature. This, was based on a Communication from Lofa County District#4 Representative, Mariamu B. Fofana.

“Honorable Speaker and distinguished colleagues, upon receiving numerous complaints from faculty and students from Lofa County Community College, and despite efforts made by different stakeholders in the county but to no avail, the Committee on Education decided to invite Dr. Samuel K. Ngaima, Sr. On Thursday, February 3, 2022 to ascertain the nature of the faculty members and students’ concerns at the college”.

In said communication, according to the report, the Committee requested submission of a detailed report on all financial transactions for the past two academic years, records on the current employees, records of enrollment, records of remittance from Government, records on fees collections from students and copy of assessment report on the status of the college.

Representative Fofana averred that the Committee requested for said documents so as to help in taking decision that will bring to an end crisis at the college.

“Honorable Speaker and distinguished colleagues, Dr. Ngaima deliberately refused to show up and chose to discuss the Committee’s invitation on a local radio station in Voinjama instead”, the communication reads.

The House’s Committee Chair on Education furthered stressed that the situation at the college is causing serious problem thereby impeding the Education of young people in that part of the Country.

Honorable Fofana however called on members of the House to help in finding remedy to the situation in order to have calmed restored at the college.

According to her, since the president of the College cannot honor the invitation of the Committee, it will be prudent for him to appear before the full Plenary of the House to address himself to the concerns.

Following the reading of the Communication, a motion was made by Representative Jimmy Smith of Montserrado County District#2 to have the above mentioned individuals summoned. The motion was overwhelmingly voted for.
