House of Representatives Begins Budget Hearing On Friday; As it Releases Schedule for Hearings on Draft National Budget

Monrovia- December 2, 2021: The Legislative Budget Office (LBO) of the 54th Legislature has released a full schedule for Public Hearings on the Expenditure Component of the Draft National budget for the Fiscal Year 2022 with Ministries and Agencies. The expenditure component of the budget is under the spotlight.

According to a press release from the House of Representatives Press and Public Affairs Bureau, the budget hearing opens on Friday, December 3, 2021, at the hour 10:00 Am in the William R. Tolbert Joint Chamber, with the Ministry of Finance and Development planning, the Liberia Revenue Authority, Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LIGIS), Health, JFK and the National Public Health Institute taking the stand before the Ways, Means and Finance Committee of the Legislature.

Day-two Monday, December 6, 2021, will bring together six Entities. They include The Ministry of Education, University of Liberia, The West African Examination Council (WAEC), Tubman University, Agriculture and Transport Ministries.

Day-three, Tuesday, December 7, 2021, two Agencies of government are expected to appear. They are Liberia Water & Sewer Corporation (LWSC), and the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC).

Day-four, Wednesday, December 8, 2021, will bring together the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Gender, Children and Protection, General Services Agency (GSA), Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), and the Ministry of Labor.

Day-five, Thursday, December 9, 2021, the Ministry of Public Works, Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE), Ministry of Mines & Energy, the Ministry of Youth & Sports, and General Auditing Commission. On the same day, the committee shall climax her duty of the Expenditure component of the draft National Budget.

The Press Bureau release quoting the LBO stressed that all presentations will be led by heads of Institutions and teams and sector head Ministry will remain present for a presentation by sector members.

Meanwhile, institutions that are not mentioned in the hearing schedule are obliged to submit their FY2021 Budget (Special Budget) Alignment of the PAPD performance reports and fill in the Public Hearing Reporting Template forms that will be attached to the communication sent to them.

Any Agency that fails to attend the budget hearings will have a budgetary cut not to exceed 10% of lines, excluding composition and all presentations should be submitted at least one day before the hearing.
