Monrovia- November 17,2021: The Plenary of the Honorable House of Representatives on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 sent to Monrovia Central Prison, Madam Markavee Sheriff and her driver, Mohammed Dukuly Sheriff for assaulting Grand Kru County District#1 Representative, Nathaniel Bahway on the ground of the Capitol Building.
Members of the Lower House overwhelmingly voted to send the two individuals to jail for 15 days during the 8th Day Sitting of the Special Session of the 54th Legislature.
The decision was reached following a motion made by Montserrado County District#16 Representative, Dixon Sebo after a heated debate.
The two Sheriff’s family were arrested on Capitol Hill by Sergeant-at-arms for assaulting the Grand Kru lawmaker while on his way to Session.

After the arrest, the office of the Chief Clerk served them with a letter to appear before the full Plenary of the House of Representatives to answer question as to why they should not be held in contempt for violating Article 44 of the 1986 Constitution.
Article 44 reads; “Contempt of the Legislature shall consist of actions which obstruct the legislative functions or which obstruct or impede members or officers of the Legislature in the discharge of their legislative duties and may be punished by the House concerned by reasonable sanctions after a hearing consistent with due process of law.
No sanctions shall extend beyond the session of the Legislature wherein it is imposed, and any sanction imposed shall conform to the provisions on Fundamental Rights laid down in the Constitution.
Disputes between legislators and non-members which are properly cognizable in the courts shall not be entertained or heard in the Legislature”.
The incident started with the Honorable man while on his way for Session. According to Legislative reporters who were on the scene when the commotion started, Madam Sheriff alleged that the Grand Kru lawmaker hit her vehicle at the front and refused to stop on the accident scene.
This, according to the information, got her irritated thereby causing the actions.
Madam Markavee and her driver separately apologized to Representative Bahway and members of the Honorable House of Representatives for their actions and vowed not to repeat same during their appearance.
In line with due process, they appeared with their lawyer on Tuesday. Why on the stage before the full Plenary, Madam Markavee collapsed and was rushed to the nearby health center to stabilize her condition before serving her 15 days jail sentence.
Her driver was immediately taken to the Monrovia Central Prison after Plenary’s decision.
