TO IMPROVE PRODUCTIVITY IN THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR, USAID LAUNCHES NEW AGRICULTURE ACTIVITY

Monrovia-October 25,2021: USAID today launched its new agriculture sustainability activity to improve productivity in the agricultural sector. The goal is to increase the availability of domestically processed rice and cassava, improve profitability for entrepreneurs in the rice and cassava value chain, while addressing environmental and natural resource management challenges, as well as climate change concerns.

The activity will specifically targets women and youth. Young people will be reached through agriculture extension programs in schools to introduce Liberian youth to the economic potential in the agriculture sector. Speaking during the launch of the activity in Monrovia today, USAID Liberia Mission Director Jim Wright said Liberia has huge agriculture potential that is not being tapped. He said with its abundant water resource, fertile land, and youthful and dynamic population, Liberia should not only be producing enough food to feed itself, it should also be able to export agriculture produce to other countries. He called on the Government of Liberia to design and implement policies necessary to unlock Liberia’s vast agricultural potential.
