House Of Representatives Press Director dispells Public perceptions about Lawmakers Are Law Breakers

Monrovia, Liberia October 14, 2021- As members of the Legislature are expected to reconvene a special session on October 18, 2021, the Director of Press at the House of Representatives, Robert Haynes has debunked public perceptions that lawmakers are law breakers who only seek their personal interest.

Speaking Thursday on Voice of Liberia, Haynes stressed that contrary to how some Liberians think about the workings of their Representatives, the Legislators are not law breakers.

Director Haynes maintained that the lawmakers are patriotic citizens who are making laws, effectively demonstrating their oversight responsibilities and representing the interest of their respective constituents across the Country.

The House of Representatives Director of Press and Public Affairs further outlined the previous works done by the Lower House during its Fourth Session, including the holding of 61 Regular sessions, 49 Executive Sessions, three special sessions, 34 appearances of Government Officials and other sectors’ heads, the passage of 31 bills and 18 executive bills passed among others.

According to the youthful Director, 34 bills are currently in Committee Room, adding that previous bills by that august body have immensely benefited citizens of the country, including the Domestic Violence Bill and the elevation of some local colleges.

At the same time, Director Haynes has disclosed that the Press and Public Affairs Bureau of the Lower House is planning to have an hour radio program on the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) and other local radio stations to communicate the workings of members of the House of Representatives to the ordinary citizens across the country.
