Monrovia- October 5, 2021: At long last, the 2020 Act creating the Maryland Vocational Training Institute has been signed into law by the President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency, Dr. George Manneh Weah.
Maryland County Senator J. Gbleh-bo Brown, the brain behind the instrument, disclosed that the Act is currently being printed into handbill.
The Act, crafted by Senator Brown and passed by the Liberian Senate last year, was signed recently by the President, following its concurrence by the House of Representatives in September 2021.
According to the instrument, Maryland Vocational Training Institute was established to help address the deficit in human resource development and increase citizens’, especially young people’s employability in an effort to boost the realization of inclusive growth and sustainable development in Liberia.

“Whereas, considering the high level of unskilled youth in Liberia, specifically in the rural parts of the country, which makes access to employment opportunities very difficult for them, can pose serious risks to national security and social stability,” states the MVTI Act of 2020.
MVTI’s establishment, as enshrined in the Act, is also against the backdrop of fulfilling the Liberian constitutional provisions calling for equal access to educational opportunities and leveraging on the importance of sound technical and vocational education in meeting strategic labor demands.
“Whereas, the Liberian government recognizes that the transition towards inclusive growth will not be realized unless the human capacity building is enhanced and that quality education and vocational training are improved to match the demand of the labor market.”
With the coming into force of this educational instrument, Maryland County’s youthful population can now brief a sigh of relief for a brighter day ahead.
