Lofa County- September 30, 2021: Activities marking the 57th of the Press Union of Liberia has taken place in Voinjama, Lofa County.
The theme for this year’s anniversary is “Enhancing the voices of citizens & Government for Sustainable Development”.
Welcoming the guests to the city of Foya, during the Edward Wilmot Blyden Forum, mayor Cecelia Harley welcome members of the Press Union and other guests. She used the occasion to express how happy she in receiving members of the Press Union. The mayor the the guests that they can enjoy and do anything in the city of Foya in as much as it is law abiding.
For her party, Mrs. Melody Mezay Ketter who happens to be the chairlady on the anniversary preparatory Committee gave the overview of the program.
Madam Ketter told the audience that the team left Monrovia on Monday and was expected to reach on the same day, but due to the deplorable roads condition they were able to arrive on Tuesday, September 28 which thereby caused the calendar of events to go contrary to the original schedule. She also said that the over hundred journalists that make their way to Lofa is actually intended to tell the stories about the county to the rest of the people. She cautioned all journalists to report the truth and nothing but the truth about Lofa County.
Two speakers were invited to speak on the forum. The two speakers were Mr. J. Aaron Dorbor who is the president of the students Council of the Free Pentecostal University. Mr. Dorbor spoke on the challenges the students Community are faced with. He is calling on the National gov’t to come to the aids of the students. He said politics should not divide the county. He also stretched the need for Lofians to be truthful to themselves by uniting together for the betterment of Lofa County.
For his part , Mr. Moses S. Tito, former deputy speaker of the Lofa Youth caucus called upon citizens of Lofa to come together to rebuild their county. He said that belongs to them and only citizens of the county can bring development in the county.
In a related development,supporters of senator elect, Mr. Brownie J. Samukai stormed into the hull in protest to their elected senator who they claimed that has been denied by the Weah’s government from taking his seat within the Liberian Senate. According to them,they are calling on the president not to play on their intelligent. This action took place as soon as the deputy Minister for Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Jallaway Tompoe was been called on the podium to read the message from the president of the Republic of Liberia.
According to reporters, most of the citizens spoken to expressed frustration over the manner and form in which their elected senator has been treated just because of politics.
