A MiCAT Commentary On Monsterrado county Senator Abraham Darius Dillon Allegations Against the Government

September 24, 2021: The Ministry of Information Culture And Tourism has written a Commentary on Allegations made against the government by Senator Abraham Darius Dillon. In this Commentary, the government labeled the Monsterrado county Senator as a liar, who aim is to misinform the public about the government.

The commentary Reads: Our attention is drawn to the false claims recently spewed by Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon, who in his usual emotional tirade against the Administration of President George M. Weah again pandered to audience on social media when he described the Liberian leader as a “dictator”. He also alleges the government is “lobbying” against itself.

Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s an internationally accepted fact that the country, under the leadership of President Weah, is currently enjoying a burgeoning democracy – with the healthy exchange of ideas – from which the Senator benefits. One of President Weah’s first order of business when he assumed his Presidential duties was to commit the government to protecting free and peaceful political assemblies, as guaranteed by the Liberian constitution, while also freeing up the space for journalists to operate freely – through the passage of the K. Abdullai Kamara Act.

There has also been many free, fair and democractic elections held under his watch – some of which the ruling party has lost but were gracious enough to congratulate the victors, including Senator Dillon. President Weah encourages tenets such as a pluralistic and diverse media, and frowns upon any vice that stiffles free speech.
These are indisputable facts.

While we don’t usually meddle in the discourse on social media, when a person the position of a Senator, who ought to know better, attempts to resuscitate his eroding career after a monumental political disgrace at the expense of the Liberian government, we feel obliged to set the record straight. It’s a known fact that the Senator is a contradiction of everything he professes – from riding in luxury, to the lies he tells about things as simple as a plane ticket.

Regarding “lobbying”, a reference to the Liberian government’s effort to consolidate and enhance U.S. support for its development drive, the Senator again attempts to prey on the perceived gullibility of the people in order to egotiscally project himself – like he always does. He regurgitated several long debunked lies, which have become of the refrain – and some of which were used to back his 2020 campaign – including bringing up matters which have already been investigated and settled, with assistance from the U.S. government, such as the “$25 million Mop-up exercise”, “missing Liberians”, etc. All investigations in these matters exonerated the government of any wrong doing.

Relative to the setting up of a war crime court, if anyone knows best how a court is set up in Liberia, it should be a Senator. President Weah has taken the most significant step of any Liberian leader since the publication of the Truth and Recognciliation Commission’s report. He wrote the Senate, where Senator Dillon sits, asking it to take charge by offering advice on the way forward. That the Senator will bring this up again in a Facebook post pretending like the proverbial ostrich, is yet another example of how disingenuous he’s always been.

We know what is actually upsetting to the Senator is the unearthing of the plot, which he supports, in a vain attempt to deny Liberia of assistance from the U.S., – the payment of U.S.$180,000 in lobbying fees by the Liberian opposition.

But at a time when the Senator’s image is battered, which prompted almost all of his staff to resign, that he will still find time to come up with these rote lines he knows to be untrue is mind-boggling.
Once again, he has shown his love for lies.
