LEC Board Mandates LEC To Embark On A Disconnection Campaign without Fear or Favor against illegalconnections and delinquent customers

Monrovia-September 15, 2021: The Board of Directors of the Liberia Electricity Corporation today held its first meeting
under the Chairmanship of Honorable Monie Captan.

The Board during its first meeting, mandated the management of LEC to
rigorously embark on a disconnection campaign without fear or favor against illegal
connections and delinquent customers.

The Board further directed the LEC
management to investigate all accusations brought against LEC employees and to
institute a whistle blower policy that will lead to the arrest of unscrupulous persons
that continue to facilitate illegal connections.

In his statement to the Board, Chairman Captan thanked President George M. Weah
for appointing him as Chairman of the LEC Board and promised to help turn LEC
around into a viable public enterprise that can efficiently serve the Liberian people.

Meanwhile Hon. Captan has called on the LEC management to immediately address the difficulties customers
face in getting a legal connection. He said that the excuse for power theft, which is
a second-degree felony, cannot be the inability to gain lawful connection. Therefore,
LEC management will have to provide customers a transparent and efficient process
to get connected. Where it is not technically feasible to provide a connection at the
time, customers must be informed accordingly and not be left in the dark regarding
the status of their application.
Prior to adjourning its meeting, the LEC Board approved a Large Customer
Connection Incentive Scheme and additional measures against power theft.
