A Brief Background Of Liberia’s 174 National Flag Day Orator

Monrovia-August 24, 2021: A brief background of Mr. Millias Z. Sheriff, Liberia’s one hundred-seventy-four (174) flag day national Orator.

Mr. Millias Z. Sheriff is the current Assistant Minister for Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). He was born on September 15, 1985 in Duala, Bushrod Island, Montserrado County. He hails from Grand Capemount County and was born unto the union of Mr. P. A. Sheriff (Baaka, Porkpa District) and Mrs. Alice Satta Kemokai (Bandor, Tewor District), all of whom are origins of the above mentioned political sub-division of Liberia.

Without being held stagnant by the obstinate miasma of wars and economic deprivations in Liberia for 14 unbroken years, he would go to graduate from the St. Mary Catholic High School, Duala, Bushrod Island. Upon his graduation from High School, he grew up to have extreme penchant for humanity and advocacy through personal capacity building initiatives. In 2004, he earned certification of achievement in capacity training courses in SGBV/ Child Protections conducted by the International Rescue Committee (IRC). In 2007, he attended series of capacity training in Agriculture, Advocacy, Human, and Child Rights protection by the Christian Children’s Fund (CCF)-Liberia.

Mr. sheriff earned a BSc Degree in Economic and Accounting (cum laude) from the African Methodist Episcopal University in 2011. While studying at the above-mentioned tertiary institution, he became noted for his stance for genuine and progressive causes on and off campuses. As a young political actor in Liberia, he became a hierarchical member of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) through its mainstream; where he served as Vice Chair for Finance and Investment and Regional Secretary General, Grand Capemount Chapter from 2010-2017.
As a way of demonstrating his endless support for academic excellence and positively contributing to the educational sector of his country, Mr. Sheriff dedicated his services to the classroom when he taught at the Assembly of God Mission High School, Caldwell Road, Bushrod Island and he became to mentor many young Liberian student, 2012-2015. His willingness to always pay back to society took him back to his alma mater at the African Methodist Episcopal University; where he served as a Guest Lecturer in 2018.
As a passionate young professional, Mr. Sheriff worked as Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (PMER) Officer of the Liberia National Red Cross Society, 2015- 2017. In 2016, he served as the President of the Young Political Leadership School (YPLS)/ National Youth Movement for Transparent Elections (NAYMOTE). Mr. Millais Z. Sheriff is an unmatchable character who has taught many young people extreme knowledge of cultural and societal diversity, as he also served in the construction field as Operation Manager for FOMBACO Construction Company, Jamaica Road, Bushrod Island, 2010-2011.

Prior to the 2017 presidential and general elections in Liberia, this destined nationalist served and is still serving the Revolutionary National Youth League of the Coalition for Democratic Change as Vice Chair for Planning, Policy & Program.
As a gentleman with intensity of affections for academic excellence, Mr. sheriff Graduated from the Cuttington School of Graduate and Professional Studies, Oldest Congo Town, Monrovia with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance, 2018. Still being desirous of acquiring education, he obtained another Master in Education Administration and Supervision (M.Ed.) in 2021 from the Cuttington School of Graduate and Professional Studies, Oldest Congo Town, Monrovia. He’s presently a Prospective Graduate (Class of 2020/21) of the Gabriel L. Dennis Foreign Service Institute (FSI), reading International Relations and Diplomacy.


After the inauguration of Amb. George Manneh Weah as President of Liberia, Mr. Millias Z. Sheriff emerged amongst the first list of appointed officials as Assistant Minister for Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Ministry of Youth and Sports. Exclusive of his professional leadership sagacity, Mr. Millias Z. sheriff is a notable and passionate intellectual who is prepared to stand-up in defence of his conviction at all times. As a politician, he is a devotee of the politics of African Nationalism who is fixated about propagating and fostering the Pro-poor Agenda for Development and Prosperity (PADP) to its logical conclusion. Mr. sheriff is a patriot, nationalist, humanitarian with a beautiful family and a great father of three kids who is determined to transform Liberia into a better place for generations unborn.


In his current portfolio at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, he keeps working tirelessly to cement cordial relationship between the government of Liberia and the youthful population through TVET programs and other progressive initiatives.
