Senator Dillon Apologizes For Accepting the 15k; Says He will not return the money but will construct a Public Library with it

Monrovia-June 15, 2021: Senator Abraham Darius Dillon has apologized for accepting fifteen thousand United States Dollars (US$15,000) intended for legislative engagement. The Senator today apologized at a news conference at his Capitol building office.

Senator Dillion said he will not return the money but will use the money for the construction of a public library.

It can be recalled last week, news broke out that each member of the 54th Legislature including Senator Dillon received from the Executive Branch of government US$15,000 for legislative engagements.
But the senator decision of receiving such money has raised public outcry that he professes to be the Light and as such; he should not have taken the money.

But addressing legislative reporters Tuesday, Senator Dillon said he apologized for his action of receiving the money, but termed the money as legal.

According to him, the money is not a personal benefit for Lawmakers and the money is captured in the national budget contrary to the claim that the money is not in the budget.

The Montserrado County Senator also vowed not to return the money to save his integrity and his “The Light” title in the public.
He further said he would rather give the US$15,000 to the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE) to construct a modern and digitized public library in the county.

According to him, this is the first time for the public to know Lawmakers receiving money for legislative engagements.
He added that the money is in the budget and cannot be used anyway by any lawmaker.
