In January Minister Le Drian and President Weah held talks on the margins of the inaugural ceremony of Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo in Accra. At that time, the French Foreign Minister thanked the Liberian government for its continuous efforts at “consolidating the democratic gains the country has made under the Weah-led administration”.

Le Drian will be accompanied to Liberia by the Director on Africa and Indian Ocean, Christophe Bigot, and the Advisor on African Affairs, Arnaud Suquet. During his stay, there will also be the laying of a cornerstone at Alliance Francais, signifying Liberia’s desire to harness closer ties with the Francophone World.

The French Foreign Minister’s trip to Liberia is further demonstration of the renewed commitment by the Government of France to set in motion stronger ties with the Administration of President George M Weah.

During their meeting in January, President Weah and Minister Le Drian also explored possible security cooperation through a similar military pact the French has with Cote d’Ivoire, but agreed at the time that a firm commitment will be made during Le Drian’s visit to Monrovia.
