Sources in Washington D.C. has hinted the authoritative Monrovia Latest News, that a high power Liberian delegation is expected to visit the United States to engage top State Department and Treasury Department officials.
According to a dispatch from the United States the powerful Liberian government delegation headed by Deputy House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa is scheduled to meet U.S. Secretary of Treasury, Janet L. Yellen, rather than U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken as previously planned in a bid to restoring a cold-warn relations between Washington and Monrovia since the coming in of the George Weah Government.
Those on the government of Liberia high-power delegation includes Deputy House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, Maritime Commissioner-General, L. Eugene Nagbe, Minister, Gender, Children and Social Protection, Piso Saydee Tarr, Monrovia City Mayor, Jeff Koigee, Finance and Development Minister, Samuel Tweah, and Minister of State, Hon. Nathaniel McGill.
Sources tell Monrovia Latest News that Deputy House speaker, Koffa, departed Liberia on Monday, May 10, 2021, and is schduled lead the government delegation due to his widen understanding of Washington and will provide legal and diplomatic advise to the government delegation.
Monrovia Latest News understands that Deputy Speaker Koffa, as member of the first branch of the Liberian government was a member of a previous government delegation which initiated esrly 2021, shall play a pivital role in the success of the mission.
Sources have also informed Monrovia Latest News that long time politician and Economist Samuel Jackson has been contracted by the government of Liberia and has lined up at least six meetings with U.S. Senators, including members of U.S. Congressional Foreign Relations Committee.
The visit of the delegation followed days of speculation that Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koigee, scheduled visit to America for a meeting with Chicago City Mayor had been canceled.
According to sources in Washington D.C., several lobbyist are lined up for series of meetings with the Liberian delegation in a bid to getting Washington’s attention to the George Weah’s Administration.
The composition of the high power Liberian delegation without Foreign Minister Maxiwell Kemayah , has raised eyebrows.
Political figures both in Washington and Monrovia, have wondered the rationale behind the absence of Liberia’s Foreign Minister from such delegation.
It may be recalled, a senior United States of America’s Congressional member, New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District Republican Representative Christopher H. Smith described President George Manneh Weah-led government as being “kleptocratic” in nature.
Kleptocracy is a government whose corrupt leaders use political power to appropriate the wealth of their nation, typically by embezzling or misappropriating government funds at the expense of the wider population.
