SUPREME COURT SETS APRIL 8 FOR FINAL RULING INTO NIMBA’S ELECTION DISPUTE CASE.

The Supreme Court of Liberia has officially set Thursday April 8, 2021 as the day for the ruling in the case involving Movement for Democratic Reconstruction Party (MDR) Senatorial Candidate, Rep. Jeremiah Koung and Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP).

Since the December 8 Special Senatorial Elections, Nimba County is yet to have a seat at the Liberian Senate as there have been series of legal battle between the top two candidates, Madam Edith Gongole Weh and Hon. Jeremiah Koung.

Legal arguments into the case have concluded and the high court will make a final determination into the case as to the complaint filed.

Lawyers representating Madam Gongloe-Weh have prayed the high Court to order the National Elections Commission to do a rerun in districts one and two and recount in districts four, five and six in Nimba County.

Madam Gongloe-Weh Lawyers have also alleged during the argument that during the December 8, 2020 Special Senatorial Elections, Senator Prince Johnson was seen with 150 armed men and that their presence intimidated the voters. The lawyers include Cllr. Gloria Scott and Cllr Tiawon Gongloe.

Also Hon. Jeremiah Koung lawyer Cllr Arthur Johnson during the argument described Cllr. Gongloe’s testimony as something that is based on assumption, speculation and has no evidence.

Cllr. Johnson has prayed the court to dismiss the complaint filed by Madam Gongloe’s Lawyers and order NEC to certificate Representative Koung as Senator of Nimba County

Recently, the women of Liberia collected some money to support the legal process of women in legal elections battle at the court. They include Madam Gongloe-Weh of Nimba and Madam Botoe KANNEH of Gbarpolu.

The High Court also cleared off the Botoe KANNEH case with her rival Alfred Koiwood thus setting the pace for her Certification.

The women of Liberia in a loud at one of their rallies mentioned that there is a need for more women at the Liberian Senate to ensure their issues are lifted.

As it stands, there are now 2women in the Senate out of 30seats.
